Currently I work at Apple in Cupertino, CA. My time revolves around system storage daemons and data management, primarily on the iOS side. Previously I spent a considerable amount of time on external storage bringup on iOS and before that I worked on APFS, the brand new filesystem Apple debuted in 2016.
Western Digital specializes in digital storage. For a good chunk of time, I was at WD working on enterprise class storage products with the Performance team, analyzing and writing firmware to improve the performance capabilities of WD's traditional HDD products. Before that, my efforts revolved around writing tests and tools for validation of the company's first PCI-E NVMe SSD, and then firmware bringup for WD's hybrid SSD/HDD drive.
I had my first internship with Jackson National Life. They offer financial products and investment tools. I worked in the software department writing internal software tools for the company.
I went to Michigan Technological University and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelors in Computer Engineering and a minor in Electrical Engineering.
Youtunes is a desktop music player, similar to Spotify or iTunes. But it sources all of its music from Youtube, allowing you to use Youtunes as your own personal music library. You can curate your collection directly from within the Youtunes, and create your own playlists. It was written using React and Javascript, and bundled into an application using Electron. AppCap is a jailbroken iPhone tweak I wrote a few years back. Back when I felt that I was spending way too much time on my phone, it was an app that let you put restrictions on when you could use your apps. For example, I would restrict the Facebook app to my apartments GPS location, so I couldn't check it in class. I would only let the Mail app launch 5 times per day, so I wouldn't constantly check my email. I'd limit games to >50% battery, so my phone wouldn't die because I wanted to squeeze in a few extra levels. The limits were completely customizable on an app by app basis, and cover a vast range of possibilities, like time, calender, location, frequency of usage, data usage, etc. You can still find it in the Cydia store today, although it hasn't been updated for the latest iOS. Here are some nice things a few websites had to say about it:
My name is Binh Tran, thanks for stopping by my homepage. I work mainly storage technologies and test automation, but I love to dabble in all things digital. When I'm AFK, I usually spend most of my time playing ultimate frisbee or video games.
